My sweet she-blogga friend, Leslie, put me in her Rockin’ Air Band. In keeping with the spirit of the award (and the hilarity of the idea of an “air band”) I will now pass along the honor (and hot pink badge) to a couple of chick bloggers I like. I haven’t been blogging for long, so my band may be sparse. In fact, some band members may not ever know I exist and therefore will never know that they are actually members of my band. But that’s okay. Clearly, people do not have to know me to be good and/or funny writers. Here they are:

On Lead Guitar: Leslie, from My Mommy’s Place. I chose her for lead because she is a Guitar Hero fiend. Yeah, yeah, I know I’m already in her Air Band, but I would be a complete jerk if I didn’t at least invite her to be an integral part in mine. I love this chick. She’s been my most devout commenter in my three whole months of blogging. Her writing is hilarious, her photography is rad, and her daughter is stinkin’ adorable. I feel like Leslie and I could actually be friends in RL, if the opportunity ever presented itself.

On Electric Violin: My sister, Sam, over at The Wonderfully Boring World of the Planters. She is a very new blogger, but she rocks… and I’m not just saying that because we are related. I predict very good things from her blog. (btw- anyone can comment on her blog now… so go do it!) She is as sarcastic as I, and slightly more confrontational, making for some funny posts. Plus, she played violin as a kid, and I remember her screeching out a bad-A rendition of “Boiling Cabbage Down” on that poor little violin. Go-oooooo, Sam!

Rockin on the Bass: Stephanie, over at 1 Bad Mom. This lady is funny and smart. She is a great writer; mechanics, punctuation and all. (I’m always secretly afraid she will read one of my posts and give me an in-comment tongue-lashing for my horrible grammar and excessive use of commas.) She also seems like a good mom, despite her name, and she frequents over-priced health food stores, like moi. I dig her.

Shakin the Tambourine: Chris, over at Notes from the Trenches. This woman is my secret hero. She is the mother of seven kids, and she homeschools them all. She finds time to write on three blogs (possibly more), she’s a great photographer, and she looks cute doing all of it. I’m not sure if I love her or hate her, but I definitely admire her. I gave her the tamborine because, holy crap, does she really have time to practice a real instrument? I think not. The occasional tambourine shake is all I ask of her.

That leaves me to play the keyboards (badly) and the flute. And I suppose I can belt out (also badly) some vocals.

What, you ask, makes me qualified to do all of these things? Glad you asked. I’m gonna whip out some knowledge that will blow your mind. It has been my claim to fame (since the 6th grade) that I am related to the members of the Jets… the popular ’80s group. “Make It Real”. “Cross My Broken Heart”. Come on, these are classics, people. And yes, they are Polynesian and I am very much white, which is where the “cousins twice removed” part comes in. When I was 12, my dream was that they would call me up one day and ask me to tour with them and I could play my flute and be the one nerdy white kid with braces in the group. Needless to say, it never happened and the group kind of broke up and moved on and each got married and had babies. The sisters who were the main vocals still sing in a Christian music capacity. Maybe they’ll want a flute accompaniment in church one Sunday…

I’m going to go practice some scales now. Bye.

ps- our first air band practice will be Tuesday night in my garage. I’ll make Jon  move his car.

pps- BYOFI! (bring your own fake instruments)

(Morning-after Ninja-edit: Forget me on the flute… THIS GUY is playing flute in my band. Yeah, he’s not a girl, he probably doesn’t blog, but DAMN!)

  2. @Cassie- Are you freakin KIDDING ME?? Don’t toy with me, woman. I’ve never met any of them. But several of the band members used to stay with my Uncle Dave in Cali when they had concerts and stuff. My uncle would always call my parents to see if I could go stay out there at the same time, but I wasn’t ever allowed to go. *sniff* (My mom’s brother, Uncle Dave, married Miriam Wolfgram… that’s the Polynesian connection)

  4. Okay, so I was like 6 when I started playing. Give me some credit dude!! Okay, so it was REALLY…not good. But as Uncle Matt always said, “Play me some of that cookin’ up lettuce!” And I did!

  5. @Cassie- I think that maybe I do… I don’t remember the name really, but I remember a girl with red hair. Which ward was she in? You have a pic?

  6. I was all about The Jets song “You Got It All.” Geez, Suz. Just when I think you can’t get any cooler, you bust out something like The Jets connection!

And that flute guy? Freakin’ sweet!

  7. I hang out with Stephanie in real life. I think I said something like ‘it went good’ last week and cringed. She is too kind to us lesser beings (although you would have chosen ‘well’) to shred us with carefully worded meanness.

She really isn’t that bad. (But don’t tell her. She needs to keep her reputation.)
