Ok, I remember reading the Stephen King short story, The Mist, when I was 12 or 13. Scary. As. Crap. (And we all know how scary crap can be, when it wants to be…) A “mist” — like a thick, bright fog — rolls up on a town, driving a group of people into a large grocery store. They are trapped inside, waiting for the mist to subside. Watching from the floor-to-ceiling windows that span the entire front of the store, they see that the mist isn’t subsiding. They tie a rope to the waist of a willing man and send him out into the mist to find help; the rope will allow him to find his way back. He walks out the glass doors and quickly disappears into the thick mist. Soon after, the rope pulls tight, there are loud screams from the mist, and the rope breaks. There is something IN the mist. Insanity ensues. Scary stuff, man.
I just saw this ad on TV today for the first time.
Will the movie be lame? Almost assuredly… the book never mentioned a “government project” or some such nonsense. And of course, the horrific images your mind conjures are always scarier than the best CGI. But I can honestly say I never thought they’d try to make this one, and I’m kinda interested to see what it’s like.
If nothing else, go read the story (in The Skeleton Crew) for Halloween. C-r-e-e-p-y!!

I LOOOVE Stephen King, but his books are always better than the movies. The movie doesn’t look bad. There are some pretty good actors in it. I’d see it.
By the way, your last post inspired me to clean my van today.

The movies never do the books justice. I will see the movie first and then read the book so I’m not disapointed in the movie.

No no, in the story it was hinted that it was some kind of government project gone awry…I think it originated at some kind of Army installation on the edge of town.
Scary trailer.

True enough about most movies not even coming close to matching the greatness of King’s books, but I have high hopes for this one considering the screenplay is by the same guy who did Shawshank Redemption & Green Mile - both of which were outstanding movie versions. I think the best films come from his short stories (like Shawshank and even Stand By Me which was originally “The Body,” and Green Mile was an installment series, kind of a novella), so The Mist should work out…*Fingers crossed*

@Bill- I don’t remember that part, but it’s been a long time since I’ve read it. I’m stoked to see how the movie turns out.
@Stephanie- Shawshank is one of my favorite movies, but I’ve never read the story. That makes me happy to know that maybe this movie will be made better than I originally thought it would.
