Saturday, 7:30 am. I awake and wander into my son’s room to find this fabulous sight:

MY two children, deeply engaged in recreational reading. Instead of Saturday morning cartoons. I fell to my knees and thanked the powers that be.

Upon rising from my knees, I opened the blinds on the deck doors to this craptastic vision of my backyard:

Yeah, yeah, Beautiful, schmutiful. I see this as the beginning of many layers of bundling, bad driving, and wet hems of my jeans for months to come. Stinky ‘ol snow.

After taking a picture of the yard and cussing under my breath, I went into my bathroom and took a look in the mirror. (This is where the “ugly” part comes in.) I had a huge zit right above my top lip, in that painful little space below the nose. Horrible. In case you’re wondering, there will be NO pictures of that.

I put on some Clearasil, closed the blinds, and went into my boy’s room to listen to my kids read tales of Captain Underpants and the Tale of Toa. When confronted with the good, the bad, and the ugly, always focus on the good.

  1. I can’t help but get a little wistful over that snow.

I’m sure it gets old, but it sure is lovely.

  2. @MamaMilton- It is beautiful… I was just feeling scabby about it. Utah is a pretty beautiful place in the winter.

  5. Oh, the snow photo is great! I mean, to look at on your blog, not necessarily to have in your yard. And those kids reading? Awesome!

  6. Hello,
I clicked on your link from your comment on Notes from The Trenches only because I totally agree that I’m irritated watching Santa and the other reindeer’s being so mean to Rudolph. Not the best example for kids. I’m watching it with my 2 year old who said, “they funny mommy” when they all laughed at him and I had to explain how mean they were. Ooopps…. off on a tangent. Sorry. LOL.

Just had to say I’m soooooooooo jealous of your snow. We are going to be in the 60’s this week and yucky warm weather. I miss winter so much. Utah you say??
    Enjoy it :)

  7. @Grant- Braggy-bragger-head. Get Jon a job at Redhat so we can move into the tropics. I heard that Jeremy and Melissa are moving out there… you’re all punks. Warm-weather loving punks.

  8. I missed the snow in Colorado, then I miss the snow in Utah. So far it’s been a pretty snowless Christams. We got less than an inch like 2 months ago. I know that the snow gets annoying but I’d like to see something.
